As part of an art installation called “Blue Trees,” Australian artist Konstantin Dimopoulos visited Sacramento last week to paint 60 trees, 20 of which are near the Sacramento Convention Center. He chose blue paint because it’s a jarring and unnatural color that mimics how people have “altered and destroyed much of the global environment,” he said in a written statement. Painted by Dimopoulos and volunteers from the Sacramento Tree Foundation, the trees aim to raise awareness about the effects of global deforestation. The paint is a “non-toxic, environmentally-friendly substance” that will wash away after six months, according to a statement by the Sacramento Tree Foundation.
