Dances without pretense
If you or someone you know is in a college dance program, you’ve probably seen more than your share of recitals like “Unsavory Giblets: The Horror of the Thanksgiving Turkey Holocaust” or “The Wind Blows Me Thither: An Eleven Minute Modern Dance Tribute to Falling Leaves.” So you’re understandably leery of my recommendation to see Divine Divas, the new Dale Scholl Dance/Art show at CSUS. But before you flip back to the movie section, you should know that Divine Divas honors such soulful, rockin’ women as Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Madonna and Annie Lennox. It’s not your usual pretentious ambiguity. This is music you can sing along with! Shows at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. $8-$15. Dancespace, CSUS. Call 278-4323 for more information.
