Creativity central
When you’re running low on inspiration, there’s nothing for it like joining your community in artistic expression. If you’re looking to replenish your creativity, KINKS International is the place to be this Saturday. Two exciting events are happening back to back. At Sacramento’s first live-arts marketplace, artists will create jewelry, hairstyles, cards, photos, wooden staffs and African fashions at the site. It’s a great opportunity to get a head start on your holiday shopping or find the inspiration to make your own gifts. The marketplace is open from noon until 5 p.m. and includes food, poetry and a special presentation by griot Idu Maduli. Immediately following this event, it’s time to party in celebration of Straight Out Scribes’ new book Scribes Rising. Sacramento’s mother-daughter poet team, Staajabu and V.S. Chochezi, are well known as the hosts of the Poetry on a Saturday Afternoon series. The book party promises even more food and poetry, as well as music by the Scribes’ house DJ, Tisho Shani, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. You’ll radiate artistry by the day’s end. Admission is free. Children and elders are encouraged to attend. KINKS International is located at 629 15th Street. Call 452-1290 for more information.
