Courtland Pear Fair

All this talk about Sacramento poised to become a cosmopolitan metropolis, what with its zillion-dollar arena plan and $175 per-person “farm-to-fork” dinner on a bridge, and your repressed inner cow townie is bound to feel a little twitchy. Twenty miles south of Sacramento, the annual Courtland Pear Fair offers respite in the form of old-timey, Main Street, USA, quaintness, complete with a Pear Fair Queen, a classic-car show, a duck-calling competition and, literally, tons of locally grown Bartlett pears. Free, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 180 Primasing Avenue in Courtland; http://pearfair.org.
