Consciously growing gelato

On a wedding anniversary trip to Europe around a year ago, Andrea and Kevin Seppinni noticed that the lines snaked out the door at the vegan ice cream shops, but surely, not all those customers were vegan. Plant-based chef Andrea wanted to bring this kind of quality treat—and excitement—to Sacramento. Conscious Creamery was soon born and has been operating as a pop-up cart with vegan cashew-based gelato made with organically grown seasonal fruit, with flavors like blueberry cheesecake, mint and cherry stracciatellas, peach and plum—they’ve even perfected waffle cones. The Seppinnis finally received their commercial production facility building permit, so they’re hustling to have the space completed by mid-July. Hopefully, there’ll be mango chili lime again at the next pop-up: sweet, tart, spicy and sweet. It’s a delicious ride.
