Confetti
A British brides magazine sponsors a contest to stage the most unusual wedding; competing are one couple with a “Hollywood musicals” theme (Martin Freeman and Jessica Stevenson), two hyper-competitive tennis players (Stephen Mangan and Meredith MacNeill) and two “naturists” (Robert Webb and Olivia Colman) who plan to get married in the nude. Director Debbie Isitt’s improvised mockumentary is reminiscent of Christopher Guest’s movies (Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind, etc.) but without the reservoir of comic invention; many gags fall flat, and the whole thing would probably work better cut down to an hour for cable TV. Still, there are nice moments and good performances (especially Vincent Franklin and Jason Watkins as the wedding planners), and the weddings themselves are rather sweet and touching.
