Come, watch and conquest

So, I’m a nerd: I played Dungeons and Dragons, Risk and Battleship when I was younger. But I’ve grown out of it. Now I play Dominion and Settlers of Catan, and so do my friends, relatives and scores of other board-game fans. This weekend at the Marriott in Rancho Cordova, gamers like me will get to test battle strategies out at ConQuest Sac. The fifth annual tournament will take place over three days and have hundreds of old friends and first-time gamers come together to play old favorites and new conquest games. One of the highlights will be the fourth annual Scott Hayes Memorial Warhammer Ancient Battles Tournament, in honor of the Miniature Wargaming Society of Sacramento founder who died of cancer in 2006. Warhammer Ancient Battles, often called WAB by enthusiasts, re-enacts ancient battles on a large board featuring model scenery, with dice resolving the outcome of combat or shooting. Just don’t get involved in a land war in Asia.
