College! Essay! Contest!
You drafted them. You revised them. You polished them until they shined like little gems. Then you sent them off to the admissions office at your chosen colleges.
So hey, you high-school seniors! Now it’s time to send them to us! Yes, SN&R’s College Essay Contest 2011 is now taking entries.
Reason to enter No. 1: Scholarships! Our first-place winner will receive $2,011 in college money. Second place wins $750 and third place $250.
Reason to enter No. 2: Publication! We’ll print the winners and finalists in an upcoming issue of SN&R. (We’ll post them online at www.newsreview.com as well.)
This contest is open to high-school seniors graduating in 2011 only. If you’re heading to college but did not write an essay for your application, feel free to do so now. Community-college students who wrote personal statements to apply for transfer to a four-year institution may also apply. Only one entry is allowed per student; you must live in the Sacramento region to apply. Essays will be judged anonymously. A committee of SN&R employees will pick the finalists; the winners will be selected by a panel of outside judges with experience working with high-school and college students. (No employees or relatives of employees of SN&R may enter.)
