Chopper

Mark “Chopper” Read became a cult figure and best-selling author after littering Australia with multiple murders, mayhem and other assorted crimes. Here he commits a bloody prison assault, has an inmate slice off the top of his ears so he can get transferred to safer quarters and is released into society where he terrorizes his old haunts. Standup comedian Eric Bana is menacing as the deadpan sociopath who is just as much a danger to his friends as he is to his enemies, but this film is more fictionalized sensationalism than revelatory character study, and as rudderless as Chopper’s purported life.
