Chaos and waffles
Los Angeles’ Kill Kill Kill sounds like the beginning of a Misfits song. You wait for Glenn Danzig to yell, “1, 2, 3, 4!” but he doesn’t. Instead, the distortion crackles as the guitar hangs onto a chord. There is no Glenn Danzig. Not in this band, at least. Instead of Danzig—the mesh-tank-topped worshipper of Satan—there’s Amy Golden—the lovely wearer of dresses—who screams menacingly, but only at appropriate times. Songs like “Quil Hands” offer a sense of anticipation and drama that’s usually only found in a theatrical performance. And a theme of chaos is ever present in the work of Kill Kill Kill, which reminds us—especially with Fall Out Boy coming to town—that noise music might be the last nugget of true punk rock before the Man finds it, fetishizes it and regurgitates it as efficiently as it did with hip-hop. Of course, no Audio Waffle would be complete without the Instagon Noise Trio and free waffles and coffee while they last. Also playing are Pink Canoes (San Francisco), Noisepsalm (Placerville) and Liver Cancer (Roseville).
