Bringing the Dude back
Only a certain number of films ever become timeless classics: Casablanca, Stagecoach (the 1939 version) and The Big Lebowski.
Yes, The Big Lebowski has officially made it to the timeless-film category.
First of all, how can anyone forget Jeff Bridges as a guy who basically lives in a bowling alley, drinks White Russian cocktails all day and calls himself “The Dude”? Plus, adding Sam Elliott and his freaking-awesome mustache only upped the movie’s timelessness.
OK, so maybe it’s not technically a classic in the listed-under-the-classic-movie-section-on-Netflix kind of way. However, the 1998 film became an instant cult classic, thanks to its assortment of quotable lines (“Nobody calls me Lebowski. You got the wrong guy. I’m The Dude, man” and “Walter, he peed on my rug!”), unforgettable characters and Sam Elliott’s freaking-awesome mustache. Yes, it’s so awesome I had to mention it twice.
So it seems fitting that there’d be only one place to gather in honor of this cult-classic phenom—a bowling alley.
Capitol Bowl will host the third annual Big Lebowski party on Sunday, August 29, from 2 to 5 p.m. The celebration of all things Lebowski will include two hours of bowling and shoe rental, a movie viewing, costume and trivia contests, and music.
So dress up, order yourself a White Russian and celebrate His Dudeness.
