Bread does a body good

The milk bread at New Roma Bakery is already a hot commodity—round loaves that make great sandwiches and are absolutely glorious as toast—but now this Midtown bakery has upped the ante with a pesto milk bread that retains the smooth texture of the original, but adds a kick of flavor. Once the garden starts producing, you can bet on tasty slices of toasted pesto milk bread topped with a big slice of tomato, some fresh mozzarella and perhaps a sprinkle of oregano. Loaves go for $3; they’ll slice it for you, but it’s better hand-carved into thick slices.
