Bread and Tulips
Rosalba (played by the earthy, sensual Licia Maglietta) is accidentally left behind at a roadside rest stop while vacationing by bus with her large extended family. She decides to hitchhike home to punish her boorish husband and two teen sons. Her trek leads to a liberating holiday of her own in Venice where she is taken under wing by a suicidal Icelandic waiter (Bruno Ganz), given a job by an anarchist florist and takes up the accordion. Her husband hires an out-of-work plumber turned private eye to track her down in a slight, whimsical tale of self-discovery and affirmation of life that celebrates eccentricity and the transcendental effects of music. Directed by Silvio Soldini.
