Bratz
The popular line of fashion-oriented dolls moves from TV cartoons to big-screen live action, telling the story of four high-school pals (Logan Browning, Janel Parrish, Nathalia Ramos, Skyler Shaye) resisting the pull of competing cliques and fighting the schemes of the principal’s diva-witch daughter (Chelsea Staub). The girls are presented as variously talented at cheerleading, singing, science and soccer, but all they really seem good at is dressing, chirping and tossing their heads; in fact, they’re so air-headed they might well have written the bubble-gum script themselves (it’s officially credited to Susan Estelle Jansen, Adam De La Peña and David Eilenberg). There are a handful of songs as shallow and featureless as the characters, and Sean McNamara directs with all the care the material deserves.
