Bob the builder
The Maintenance Man is an old story told a new way. A middle-aged MWWK (married writer with kids) named Bob looks for greener pastures, only to find the new pasture sprouts the same weeds. The title comes from Bob toting around his toolbox trying to fix things—other than his marriage. Bob the builder believes his tools are both an aphrodisiac and an avenue of avoidance. And both the women in this life—old wife, young mistress—buy into the first before finally recognizing the second. Playwright Richard Harris deconstructs Bob’s house of cards in entertaining and unique ways by tearing down the fourth wall with characters talking to the audience, flashbacks and flash-forwards, and overlapping conversations. Add in witty dialogue and a winning cast (Kurt Johnson, Rebecca Dines, Alison Lees-Taylor) for a job well done.
