Blue Christmas, anyone?
He has those mystical eyes like his father, Muddy Waters, and a mission to keep making deep blues music from the Delta. Big Bill Morganfield is coming to town. He’s headlining a superb, triple-bill Holiday Blues Blast, brought to you by the Sacramento Heritage Festival folks, that also features New Orleans’ Mem Shannon and buttery-voiced soul singer Frankie Lee. It should make Sunday, December 1, a day to avoid shopping malls and embrace some great blues talent instead. Savor Big Mike Balma’s scrumptious down-home cooking, also. And don’t miss Shannon, a storyteller and clever songwriter; he once was a cabbie in New Orleans, where back-seat discourse is always rich. The show starts at 2 p.m. at the Sacramento Horseman’s Club, 3200 Longview Drive (just west of Watt Avenue, between I-80 and Business 80). Tickets are $10 in advance at The Beat or $12 at the door.
