Yuen Woo Ping choreographed The Matrix and Jet Li spiced up Lethal Weapon 4 after both Hong Kong movie veterans made this 1996 high-octane thrill ride. An elite, biologically engineered combat team takes over the drug underworld when the government targets them for termination. Li plays a former group member living as a geeky librarian who is forced to protect his new friends (a tough cop and a ditzy female co-worker) and stop the manic activities of his past associates. The action scenes are jagged and feverish, but don’t blend well with the film’s corny humor, poor dubbing and new hip-hop/rap soundtrack.
