Black Label Society
Mafia
Black Label Society tears up the old-school metal sound on its new album, Mafia, proving that even Zakk Wylde had to pick up voice lessons down the road somewhere. (As Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist, he learned from the best.) The sick mixture of Black Sabbath-sounding vocals and newer, computerized sound effects make this album another scorching release. Don’t let the weak beginning of Mafia’s lyrics throw you off: They pick up right after the song “Forever Down” and stay white hot from there. “You Must Be Blind” is the ragin’ track to look for because the guitar and bass will melt your face. Although not quite as good as Hangover Music, Vol. VI (the band’s 2004 release), Mafia is still a cool album filled with Wylde’s wild guitar licks and the band’s own patented brand of satanic biker rock.
