Big night
We know.
Seventy-five dollars is a lot of money for a night out. The hourly workers in SN&R’s calendar section understand the need for thrift in these modern times, so we almost never recommend events this pricey. That’s all the more reason to look twice when we do. Trust us. Neo-Crocker 2010 is going to be epic.
Look at it this way: $75 buys four trips to the movies (one ticket, an Icee and a jumbo box of Milk Duds). So stay home with Netflix for the next month and pony up for this once-in-a-Sacramentan’s-lifetime event.
The Neo-Crocker is the first big bash in the newly expanded and extra swanky Crocker Art Museum, which opened just a few days ago. A party years in the planning, it’s the first chance for the Crocker to shake off its quaint reputation as the oldest museum in the West and step into its new role as a cultural destination.
The museum will come to life with an array of wild performances, including living sculptures by the Sacramento Ballet, music by DJ Shaun Slaughter, fire dancing by the Vulcan Crew and Unmata, acrobatics by The Carpetbag Brigade, video smash-ups by Movies on a Big Screen, a free-form fashion show and body art. The whole event is topped by a two-hour set by special guest deejay Rjd2.
Think of it as an investment: in the Crocker, in Sacramento culture and in your store of amazing memories. Just this once, tighten your belt to open your mind.
