Dangerously In Love

Beyoncé Knowles of Destiny’s Child does a Diana Ross star turn on this, her solo debut. The first track and single, “Crazy in Love,” which features boyfriend Jay-Z’s flat rapping, is a scorching congo- and horn-driven track that’s sure to heat up summer dance floors. The moaning, orgasmic “Naughty Girl” nicks Donna Summer’s “Love to Love You Baby” on the choruses. Another rap-laced standout, “Hip Hop Star,” underpins a Prince-like shuffle with a grungy four-note repeating figure. The second half gets ballad-heavy, with a few duets (the astrology primer “Signs” with Missy Elliott and “The Closer I Get to You” with Luther Vandross); the one standout here is “Dangerously in Love 2,” a passion-drenched number that’ll give you chills. Wanna bet that Destiny’s Child will be Destiny’s Memory before long?
