Beverly Hills Chihuahua
A pampered Los Angeles pet (voice by Drew Barrymore) gets lost on a holiday in Mexico and finds herself dog-napped into an illicit dog-fighting ring, where she is befriended by a world-weary ex-police dog (Andy Garcia). Meanwhile, her owner’s niece (Piper Perabo) and the estate’s landscaper (Manolo Cardona) scour the countryside for her. Written by Analisa LaBianco and Jeff Bushell, and directed (with unaccustomed crispness) by Raja Gosnell, Disney’s latest family adventure-comedy is a sort of live-action hybrid of Lady and the Tramp and Saludos Amigos, with enough adventure, exotic color and gentle comedy to divert both kids and their parents—and grandparents, for that matter. As the voice of the stranded Chihuahua’s reluctant guardian, Andy Garcia (oddly enough) gives one of his best performances to date.
