Bay poets on stage
The Sacramento Poetry Center will host three noted Bay Area poets next Monday, January 17: Art Beck, Neeli Cherkovski and David Meltzer. Beck’s most recent work is Summer With All Its Clothes Off. He has also translated the work of Rainer Maria Rilke. Cherkovski has written biographies of Charles Bukowski and Lawrence Ferlinghetti, won numerous awards, and is the author, most recently, of From the Canyon Outward. Meltzer is a beat generation/San Francisco Renaissance poet and the author of more than 50 books. He was a professor in humanities and graduate poetics programs at the New College of California in San Francisco for 30 years, is a jazz guitarist and has written an epic poem about the beat generation. Meltzer’s Selected Poems was published in 2005.
The reading begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Sacramento Poetry Center, which is in the California Stage complex at 25th and R streets. Seating is limited, so an early arrival is suggested. Donations are welcomed. For more information, visit the SPC website at www.sacramentopoetrycenter.org.
