Bang on a garbage can
It starts with cleanup. A few workmen—and women—come in, dust mops and brooms in hand, to clean up what appears to be an industrial site. But before becoming resigned to boredom, watch what happens when movement and sound collide with the everyday objects of work. Using brooms, sticks, dustbins, garbage cans—and their lids—the performers of Stomp create a wonderfully choreographed music and dance performance that is deeply rooted in the everyday, and draws both its strength and its excitement from physical labor. Originating in Brighton 20 years ago, the U.S. tour stops at Three Stages at Folsom Lake College this week—it’s a great opportunity to see a first-class music and dance fusion in a fantastic venue.
