Bad timing?

Lapsing into standard time can mean mentally subtracting an hour until spring. SN&R hit the streets about a week after daylight-saving time expired to find out if the city’s clocks are keeping pace. All were compared to U.S. Naval Observatory time. Two out of 11 timepieces told the wrong hour—it’s always 9:39 at Rick’s Dessert Diner and 5:51 near the Fred Mayes clock on J Street. Two more clock hands missed the mark by five minutes or more. But curiouser and curiouser were the pair of Johnny Rockets clocks close to the right time but out of sync with each other. Even still, with seven ticking clocks on the mark, we’d say that Sacramento’s timekeepers are staying on their toes.
