Aw, shucks!

If you enter it, you will scream.

If you enter it, you will scream.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from watching movies like Labyrinth and The Shining—both of which scared the hell out of me as a child—it’s that mazes are frightening places, with goblins and ax-wielding madmen waiting around every turn. The Field of Screams, a 10-acre maize maze in Woodland, is no different. Its dark, haunted pathways “full of ghosts and goblins” make for a terrifying experience that somehow manages to be enjoyable. Make all the right choices, and you’ll be out in half an hour. If not, who knows whether you’ll make it out at all? The haunted maze is open Friday and Saturday nights (from dark until 10 p.m.) through Halloween. Because of the frightening nature of the maze, it’s not recommended for children 11 and younger. Come to think of it, if you have a heart condition, you’d better wait in the car. Tickets are $9. The maze is located on Main Street (just past the Walgreens distribution center) in Woodland.
