Austin Powers In Goldmember

Rated 2.0 Shagedelic International Man of Mystery Powers (Mike Myers) is back, baby, in another candy-colored blast of comic irreverence, Carnaby Street hedonism and juvenile body-part fixations. In this wildly uneven third installment, Powers attempts to rescue his kidnapped father (1960’s movie spy Michael Caine), whom the villainous Dutch playboy Johann van der Smut has jettisoned via time machine into 1975. The giggle-prone Smut has lost his genitalia in a gold smelting accident and joined forces with Dr. Evil (Myers again) to dominate the world. It’s up to Powers to do a little time traveling of his own in a customized pimp-mobile and save us all from the threat of a secret weapon dubbed Preparation H. The introduction of blaxploitation-type heroine Foxxy Cleopatra (Destiny Child’s Beyonce Knowles) and continuing surrealistic presence of Mini-Me (Verne Troyer) provide short breaths of fresh air in an overly familiar and often flat outing directed by Jay Roach. The film unfortunately peaks during its hilarious opening credits.
