Art on stage
Well, yes, it’s always art on stage—but a couple of upcoming productions will include the work of local visual artists as part of the set decoration. Of course, the local standard for this is found in some of the collaborative visual- and performing-arts work of The Pink Toupee Collective, but we haven’t heard from that group of artists, musicians and actors in a while. Fortunately, the spirit is contagious: David Blue Garrison told SN&R that The Alternative Arts Collection would be including work from area artists as part of the set for Hamlet, and we’ve heard that KOLT Run Creations is planning to include metal sculpture by Kristen Hoard in their scene design for Antigone. It’s a move that takes an already complex art—set design—one step further, making the performance arts a gallery.
