Another farewell party
Since I moved here in ’88, the Sacramento hardcore scene has been alive, vibrant and ever-changing. Even back East, people would talk about the packed shows at out-of-the way warehouses on the outskirts of the city that hosted some of the craziest hardcore shows to date (Rancid in a broken-down house? No way!). Whether you were a straightedge kid, a gutter punk, a skater or a skinhead, hardcore shows were the alternative to a lot of less interesting things, like drugs and sports. But just as quickly as new punk bands would form, the venues that let them use their space to play were shut down. That said, it’s sad news to hear that the VFW Hall in Orangevale is having its last show ever. It’s another punk-friendly all-ages venue to add to the diminishing list. The payoff, however, is that you’ll be able to watch Pressure Point (and get their new CD Get It Right), Whiskey Rebels, Monster Squad, Madhouse Disciples, Aces and Eights, In Desperation, Plead the Fifth and Pullout. See you there for what’s going to be an insane party.
