America’s greenest school
UC Davis is officially the greenest school in America. This is according to the latest issue of Sierra magazine, a Sierra Club publication. In a feature in its September/October issue, called “America’s Coolest Schools,” the magazine ranked schools’ energy consumption, water use and waste, in addition to planning efforts, green curriculum, and transportation. Sierra magazine cited UC Davis’ efforts diverting 70 percent of its trash from landfills, the 20,000 bikes that inhabit the campus, and West Village, the school’s—and the nation’s—largest planned zero-net-energy community, and ranked it higher than 95 other schools on the list.
