Along Came Polly

The honeymoon of risk-analysis worker Reuben Feffer (Ben Stiller) screeches to a halt when he discovers his wife (Debra Messing) having sex with her French scuba instructor (Shattered Glass’ now buff Hank Azaria) while still wearing her swim flippers. Nursing an acute case of intestinal trouble back home, our forlorn starched shirt is sucked into a whirlwind of extreme sports, spicy foods and salsa dancing after a chance encounter with an adventuresome, commitment-challenged former schoolmate (Jennifer Aniston). The humor of this romantic comedy is sometimes laugh-out-loud funny but too often dips into the toilet tank for sprinkles of relief when the love story veers from inspired to moronic. The film was directed by John Hamburg and co-stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as a former movie star now thrashing his way through a community-theater production of Hair.
