A weekly dose of musical fun

Jerry Lee creates a Disney mermaid nightmare that is definitely not dolphin safe at Graham-a-rama XXVII.

If an apple a day keeps the doctor away and laughter is the best medicine, may we suggest (once again) a weekly inoculation in musical theater? Who knows, it may turn out to be the best way to combat swine flu. Recent shows at Graham-a-rama, impresario Graham Sobelman’s Sunday-night cabaret series at the Geery Theatre, have included a paean to obsessed critics (specifically, yours truly), the multiple talents of Nanci Zoppi, and the rubber-faced (and we mean that in a good way) Jerry Lee as an insane Ariel the mermaid. Future lineups include Maggie Hollinbeck and Craig Howard (expect duets); Elegies: A Song Cycle (because sad songs say so much) in a special three-show weekend run; and an all-star cast for the series’ 30th show on October 11.
