A place in the sun
Two Sacramento-area solar fields opened last Tuesday: at south Sacramento’s Depot Park and the Auburn Wastewater Treatment Plant. Sacramento’s plant is a 15-acre, privately owned solar field that will produce 3 megawatts, or about enough to power 3,000 homes. It will provide about 40 percent of the energy for the Depot Park complex, a 350-acre commercial office area located on a former U.S. Army Depot. Auburn’s solar field is a 690-kilowatt array, enough to power 112 homes for a year. The city of Auburn is contracting the field from Pacific Power Management to power its entire wastewater treatment plant.
