Three Sacramento-area food co-ops and one local supermarket chain scored top marks on Greepeace’s seafood sustainability score card. Part of the organization’s “Carting Away the Oceans” report released earlier this month, the score cards awarded Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op the best score in California (9.1 out of 10). BriarPatch Co-op in Nevada City and the Davis Food Co-op each scored an 8.6, tying them for fourth best in the state. Meanwhile, the Nugget Market chain scored an 8.3, placing it at eighth most sustainable in California. These markets make “responsible decisions in the name of ocean conservation,” says the report.
