A greater understanding

Most Christians wouldn’t want the crimes of anti-abortion terrorists to represent their faith to the world. Similarly, we must recognize there is more to Islam than the acts of Muslim terrorists. Although the Islamic religion is painted as archaic or dangerous by some mainstream news media, the 13th-century Sufi philosopher, Rumi, continues to be the best-selling poet in America. Explore Sufism, an esoteric branch of Islam, at Sufi Love Melodies—a community celebration sponsored by the Multi-Cultural Center of California State University at Sacramento. The evening includes live music, art, poetry, gourmet food and singing by the Sufi Zikr Choir. Tickets are $14. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in the CSUS University Ballroom.
