Issue: December 10, 2020

We may be well into the holiday season, but for many of us living with financial uncertainty amid a surging pandemic, there is not a lot of cheer to be had. And on the economic side, small businesses are suffering more than most.

In the recently published print edition of the Chico News & Review, writer Ashiah Scharaga talks to Chico business owners who have been trying to adapt and survive as well as those who have been forced to close for good during the COVID-19 pandemic (see Treading Water and Planning, adapting, closing).

In this week’s editorial, the CN&R continues its tradition of encouraging Chicoans to spend money locally rather than order online from Amazon and other corporate giants. To help make doing so easier this holiday season, the Downtown Chico Business Association has partnered with downtown businesses to create the Online Marketplace, a one-stop virtual shop for participating merchants. If you’re spending money this year, it’s a convenient and safe way to buy gifts and keep your dollars in the community.

A reminder: Tune in Thursdays, 5:30 p.m., to the Chico News & Review radio on KZFR, 90.1 FM—or stream online at kzfr.org—for the CN&R’s signature coverage of local news and arts … on the radio!
