Issue: August 17, 2017
Morning, readers!
Have you noticed the change in the air? Even the weather has decided to cool off a bit in anticipation. In honor of campuses all over Butte County reopening their doors, we offer you our annual Back-to-School Issue. This year we chose to focus on how students who face more obstacles than many of their peers—because they're homeless or from foster care, or because they're older or just plain struggle to fit in. At Chico State, there is a place for all of them, plus programs to help them to succeed.
In other news: Chicoans take to the streets to protest hate; a local physicians group gets sold, set to go high-tech; and a local politician takes aim at pot advertising.
Save the date: Next Saturday, Aug. 26, the CN&R is hosting a block party behind our offices at Second and Flume streets in celebration of our 40th birthday. Free music and prizes, food trucks and vendors, plus a beer garden. Bring your dancing shoes!
Until next week,
Meredith J. Cooper, managing editor
