Issue: December 17, 2015
Good morning, readers!
What happens when we die? For those of us who can't afford a funeral, or
even a burial, the county steps in. In our feature story this week, we look
at indigent deaths in Butte County in light of three recent deaths of local
homeless people.
In other news: We break down--and weigh in on in an editorial--what
happened with the shooting of an unarmed civilian by a police officer in
Paradise; we check in on Tim Crews, the dogged newspaper reporter/publisher
in Glenn County who's getting death threats over an editorial decision; and
Arts Devo laments the loss of another Chico institution--the Graduate.
Mark your calendars: This evening, from 5-7 p.m. at the Bidwell Bar & Grill
(at Bidwell Park Golf Course), the CN&R Foundation--the CN&R's nonprofit
arm--will be the beneficiary of a wine-tasting event. Editor Melissa
Daugherty will be out there pouring glasses, so stop by and say hello!
Till next week,
Meredith J. Cooper, associate editor
