Issue: October 30, 2014
Good morning!
We've got a very special feature story for you this week, one that hits
close to home. In it, we dive into the story behind the current movie
"Kill the Messenger," about a reporter who broke a story about CIA
involvement in cocaine trafficking into the U.S. That reporter, Gary
Webb, worked for the News & Review for a short time after being
basically blacklisted by the mainstream media and before his suicide.
It's a great story and as an added bonus, the film is being shown at the
Pageant Theatre this week.
In other news: Is Chico becoming a City of Stumps? We try to get to the
bottom of it. Also, an inside look at Pumpkinhead (just in time for
Halloween!); we take a look at current elections contributions and
expenditures; and we head out to the river with TWIN.
Have a happy and safe Halloween, and don't forget to vote!
Until next week,
Meredith J. Graham, associate editor
