Issue: August 21, 2014
Good morning, readers!
If you haven't felt it yet, you will soon. It's back-to-school time, and
that means kids are filling campuses across town and young adults are
filing into their dorm rooms and apartments awaiting the beginning of
classes at Chico State and Butte College. For this year's back-to-school
issue, we decided to take a look at the Chico State Wildcat Store, owned
by the Associated Students but now managed by a national corporation.
CN&R intern extraordinaire Ashiah Scharaga dives in to try to discern if
corporate management will put profits above students. Read on to find
out more ...
In other news (and isn't there always other news?): News Editor Tom
Gascoyne offers a little bit of insight into the candidates for Chico
City Council; Assistant News Editor Howard Hardee finds out more about
recent accusations of open-meetings violations by the council; and
columnist Toni Scott gets a first glimpse at new eatery Midtown Local.
There's more, of course. And, since the polls are still open, don't
forget to vote in the annual Best of Chico contest. Your favorite
businesses and service providers will thank you.
