Issue: June 07, 2012
Good morning, folks.
Basketball fans are really going to dig this week’s cover story. It’s a look at the Sacramento Kings franchise, going back to its move in the mid-’80s to Sac and then tracing some of the steps leading to the team’s heyday, a decade ago, when its players squared off against the Lakers during the Western Conference Finals. Remember Vlade Divac, Chris Webber, Mike Bibby, Peja Stojakovic? If so, you’ll want to read this great piece by Joe Martin.
Over in Newslines, there are a lot of interesting reads this week, including a look at the use of controlled burning, which many folks advocate as a tool to buoy the health of certain environments, Bidwell Park among them. Of course, News Editor Tom Gascoyne is all over the election, giving insights into this year’s primary results. Editor Robert Speer tackled Tuesday evening’s City Council meeting, at which city finances was the main topic. There’s also a feel-good story on an Oroville teen’s effort to, well, help people feel good about themselves.
In the Arts and Culture section, film reviewer Craig Blamer checks out Snow White and the Huntsman, Calendar Editor Howard Hardee catches up with the guitarist of Primus, and Willow Sharkey shares her picks for (romantic) summer reads.
Enjoy!
