Issue: January 19, 2012
Good morning, CN&R readers,
Back to school, again! We've compiled a few stories in anticipation
of the new spring semester at Chico State and Butte College: an
update on the challenges for schools and students facing budget cuts
and rising tuition; a feature on the Chico State athletic
department's nationally ranked program; and a look inside the Ishi
exhibit at the university's anthropology museum. And in Healthines,
we have a feature on Chico State school of nursing director and
brand-new member of Enloe Hospital's Board of Trustees, Carol Huston.
Leading off the news of the week is story of Sounds by Dave owner
Dave Mauer's business being crippled by new law banning the sale of
speaker boxes and other stereo equipment built with wood containing
formaldehyde, as well as a story on Chico police advocating for a
dedicated alcohol compliance officer.
And in Arts & Culture we gab with Sac rapper Gift of Gab and review
the latest sushi place in town (Izakaya Ichiban) as well as the first
new local theater production of 2011 (the Blue Room's Dead Man's Cell Phone).
Thanks for reading!
