Welcome to Saudi Arabia ...
Where the streets are bleak and quiet, the gas cheap and the ability to speak freely merely a dream. For one Chico expat, this is reality. He's teaching male students at a wealthy school, living on a teachers' compound, and he tells his story using a pseudonym for fear of reprisal from his employer. Read on.
There's plenty of other juicy stuff happening this week: We check in on a teenage girl battling with cystic fibrosis, and her family and friends who are rallying around her; we gauge the temperature of local Muslims following the killing of Osama bin Laden; we take a look at autism through the actions of a local mother whose autistic son attends Butte College; and we offer up an idea for medical-marijuana cultivation that's being implemented right here in Butte County--in Biggs.
See you at the CAMMIES Music Festival! (This Sunday, 2-7 p.m. at Manzanita Place, RAIN OR SHINE!)
