You Again
It’s appropriate this film’s title is You Again, because you’ve definitely seen this before, in the form of every other chick flick. One scene was so similar to 2008’s wedding comedy 27 Dresses I could have sworn Katherine Heigl would appear onscreen. But this time around it’s Kristen Bell (TV’s Veronica Mars) who stars as Marni, the former nerd who discovers her high-school bully Joanna is marrying her older brother. As she tries to reveal Joanna’s true colors to the family, Marni’s mother (played by Jamie Lee Curtis) must deal with her own former frenemy, who just happens to be Joanna’s Aunt Mona (Sigourney Weaver). From there, the formulaic and ultra-cheesy narrative develops into one giant dose of girl drama spanning multiple generations. Thanks to the few moments of genuine humor sprinkled throughout, You Again saves itself from earning a catatonic popcorn box. If that’s good enough for you, enjoy the fun but forgettable film with the girls, but leave any loftier expectations at home. Feather River Cinemas, Paradise Cinema 7 and Tinseltown. Rated PG
