World happiness measured
Survey ranks nations based on citizens’ ratings of happiness
The 2013 World Happiness Report, a survey conducted by Columbia University’s Earth Institute between 2010 and 2012, asked citizens of 156 nations to rate their overall happiness on a scale of 1 to 10. The report used each nation’s overall average response to rank the level of happiness. The United States came in at number 17, behind Canada (6), Australia (10), Israel (11), the United Arab Emirates (14) and Mexico (16).
The five happiest countries:
1) Denmark
2) Norway
3) Switzerland
4) Netherlands
5) Sweden
The five least-happy countries:
152) Rwanda
153) Burundi
154) Central African Republic
155) Benin
156) Togo
