Chico police investigate brutal sexual assault near downtown
A city of Chico employee operating a street sweeper early Monday morning (July 11) happened upon an injured victim of a sexual assault that took place just minutes earlier near downtown.
According to the Chico Police Department, the assault took place at Lost Park, the greenway bordering Big Chico Creek on the 100 block of Wall Street. The victim, who was suffering from face and head injuries, told police that she was attacked by a man brandishing a knife.
“She was pretty badly beaten,” said Sgt. Rob Merrifield.
The woman was taken to Enloe Medical Center. Merrifield said she spent all day there.
Detectives processed the scene of the attack and are seeking info about the brutal crime. The victim described the suspect as a Hispanic man with a Spanish accent, about 45 years old, between 5-feet-6 and 6-feet-9. Call the CPD at 897-4911 with any info.
