Berkeley-based Clif Bar recently created the “Save Our Snow” Web site (www.clifbarsos.com) as a one-stop shop for skiers and snowboarders to find local bus services and carpools by searching by zip code, as well as learn driving tips to reduce carbon emissions while driving in wintery conditions, according to a press release.

The company’s program also includes an iPhone application that gives users news about North American ski resorts’ efforts to combat global warming, which many claim is the greatest threat facing winter sports. The app also gives snow-sports enthusiasts up-to-the-minute updates on snow conditions.

Transportation accounts for almost 30 percent of the nation’s greenhouse gases, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Winter sports enthusiasts make more than 57 million visits to the nation’s ski resorts each year, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

“We want to help skiers and riders rethink how they reach the summit,” said Ricardo Balazs, a marketing manager for the company. “We can all drive less, have more fun and help save the planet.”
