Website offers tips on nontoxic cleaning with herbs and essential oils

Springtime for many people means time to open windows, air out rooms, shampoo rugs and clean out drawers and closets. OldFashionedLiving.com offers some tips for making your own cleaning supplies from herbs and essential oils. Here is their recipe for a fragrant, eco-friendly drawer spray, to be used after emptying and vaccuuming drawers, and wiping them out with a damp cloth:

2 oz. isopropyl alcohol

1/2 tsp. sandalwood essential oil

1 tsp. tangerine essential oil

1/2 tsp. Peru balsam essential oil

1/8 tsp. spruce essential oil

1/8 tsp. lavender essential oil (or more, as preferred)

2 oz. distilled water

Pour the alcohol into a spray bottle, then add oils, then the water. Shake to mix. The site advises testing the spray on a small section of drawer as it could dissolve certain shellac finishes.
