Democrat Jim Reed announces 2012 candidacy
Jim Reed, an attorney from Fall River Mills, is looking to challenge Congressman Wally Herger in 2012.
The Shasta County Democrat announced his candidacy this week for the newly revised congressional District 1, which includes Butte, Shasta, Nevada, Siskiyou, Tehama, Lassen, Plumas, Modoc and Sierra counties, and parts of Placer and Glenn counties. Reed ran against Herger in 2010.
In a recent statement, Reed (pictured) listed some priorities: bringing funding to repair roads and other infrastructure, protecting Social Security and Medicare, and working to make higher education affordable.
His top priority, he said, is to bring well-paying jobs to the district. He’ll speak more about those priorities at 1:30 p.m. today (Thursday, Sept. 1) during a stop at Chico’s City Plaza.
