Wal-Mart hearing on hold
At the request of city staff, the Chico Planning Commission has postponed the much-anticipated initial hearing, originally set for today (April 3), on Wal-Mart’s plan to “supersize” its south Chico store. The postponement comes in the wake of Wal-Mart’s announcement the week before that it had dropped its proposal to develop a “supercenter” in north Chico.
The reason given for the postponement was that city staff, in preparing their report on the proposal, found several aspects of the final environmental-impact report “needing some revision,” according to a press release. More specifically, “certain impacts and mitigation measures require some clarification or modification.” The revision is expected to take three to four months.
