Violence abounds over Thanksgiving weekend
Three stabbings and a home-invasion robbery make for a bizarre few days of crime
A few bizarre incidents put a damper on the Thanksgiving weekend for some Chico residents. Saturday afternoon, a fight between two brothers turned into a stabbing that sent one to the hospital and the other to jail.
A little while later, in the wee morning hours Sunday, a man and woman were both attacked at knifepoint inside a home on Olive Street. The suspect, Matitzahl Wolf Cook-Sanchez, is believed to be the female victim’s ex-boyfriend.
The third in this string of unusual crimes happened Monday morning and involved at least the second incident of Police Chief Mike Maloney (pictured) taking his job to the streets. He responded to a call from Rick Ellison, Chico State’s vice president for advancement, who said he’d been approached in his garage by a man brandishing a gun. Ellison fled and the suspect, David Jacob Jones, was caught with a fake gun and some of Ellison’s possessions.
